I am going to declaim that I really don’t care that this deeply binary thinker commented this on one of my posts. I mostly don’t care, but I am human.
I have had far worse things said to me, about me, up to and including death threats. However, I was looking for some content today and this comment gave me something to write about today that is illustrative of the current duh-Merican experience:
If you’re not A, then you must be B, OR:
If you are B, then you must not be A.
There is no in-between or outside the edges.
Here is the comment:
Graham Hubenthal commented on your post WooHoo, My Guru, Kamalalaladingdong is Back!.
I’m blocking Cindy Sheehan, another unfortunate victim of the toxic Trump Cult. Cindy’s mind has been captured by an evil algorithm, leaving her without the power of critical thinking in the grip of an endless loop of AO generated meaningless.
It’s a little frustrating that I cannot have the final word with Graham (with two subscribers) because he did block me, but I am the one “without the power of critical thinking?”
It is apparently obvious to liberal crackbrains that if I do not support Kamalaladingdong, then I must be a “victim” of the “Trump Cult.”
Like I said on the latest episode of SheeLilly, I have not changed much over the years: still antiwar, still anti-Empire, still pro-human. People like Graham seem to have loose principles that enable them to vote for people who embody true corruption, violence, and social degradation. So, if I criticize Kamalalaladingdong, then I must be in the “Trump Cult.” I haven’t voted for a Democripple since 2004 and I have been a critic of both parties because both parties are able servants of Empire.
No matter what our political acumen, or pigeonhole is, we should always hold The Power™ accountable. There are many people who support Trump no matter what he does and those who think he’s evil no matter what he does. Whether you voted for, or like a certain cretin (they are all cretins), you must never fail to try to hold them accountable, even if it doesn’t work very often.
I do have one question though:
Does membership in the Trump Cult come with a membership card and discounts to Mickey Ds?
Cindy I am sad to say this, but this sort of non thought "thinking," is way more common in the progressive sphere than on the right now. Note, this is stark shift from the neo-con years 20 years ago, when it was the right that was intolerant. I finally couldn't take it anymore, and bailed on the progressive left. While I still do have respect for consistent anti-war real leftists with a material class analysis like you and Aaron Matte, I have to be honest and say the culture of the left in general terms has curdled.
THIS! It is beyond frustrating to listen to. I told a friend I voted for Kennedy, not Trump, and he said, "oh I have a friend who says his stance on vaccines is evil." I said, "have you listened to anything he's said?" "No." So many of my former friends were once considered smart and thoughtful. Now most of them are raging binary reactors. Not one person asks, "why did you vote the way you did?" Instead, I am called names, thrown into the "Trump cult" basket, and written off. I miss dialogue and discussion from critical thinkers. And I admit that this could all go so wrong with Trump. We could lose every environmental gain we've achieved since the 70's. Trump said out loud that he has to be careful of Kennedy because he's an environmental lawyer. Hope sometimes feels like the worst position to be in.
