I remain suspended between the horns of a dilemma: on the one horn, I believe that The Ghost of Joe Biden (Barely) Present's advanced and accelerating* dementia makes it impossible for the public to gauge how "present" he is at any given moment.

* I'm aware that on some occasions, what seems like organic dementia turns out to be an artifact of excessive and/or inappropriate medication, or is exacerbated by emotional or environmental stress. In such cases, a seemingly acutely demented person can recover their rationality once the mis-medication or stressors are reduced or eliminated. But generally, dementia doesn't spontaneously reverse or "clear up".

On the other horn, persons afflicted with dementia can settle into what used to be called "second childhood" senility; in this state, like children, they become little old pitchers with big ears and loose lips, and sometimes blurt out or repeat inconvenient truths.

Anyway, Biden himself explained that he "reluctantly" greenlighted sending cluster munitions to Ukraine on the ostensibly pragmatic grounds that they are the only 155-millimeter shells left in the US weapons stockpiles. If this is true (see above), it's a reprehensibly bald justification based on amoral expediency.

Perhaps sooner than later the US will announce the shipment of some cobweb-covered white phosphorous munitions. And I'm sure there are rusty barrels of Agent Orange that could use a good home. It makes the White House and Pentagon, on a colossal scale, look like cash-strapped homeowners who desperately drag out Lawn Darts, Clackers, and E-Z Bake Ovens for a rummage sale. 😡
