Regular Feature on Cindy Sheehan’s Soapbox
Full-disclosure, I am not a medical professional, not do I play one on TV, but I am a fellow HealthSeeker.
After I lost my health insurance when I was fired from my job when my son Casey was killed in Iraq, in 2004, I went turbo-natural. Even though I had always been a HealthSeeker, not having medical insurance kicked me into high-gear. It’s my honest opinion that most people way over-utilize western medical practices (3rd leading cause of death in the U.S. is medical mal-practice) and returning to ancestral remedies can help heal, instead of mask symptoms, and can help to build overall general immunity, while getting us more in touch with our bodies and the healing properties of Mother Nature.
I don’t get any compensation for making these posts, unless you want to toss me a few bones, but the industry that most people mis-trust (that is trust, when they should not) is a BILLIONS of dollar industry. Follow the money, honey. It seems western medicine wants to create lifelong customers, not a healthy population. I was recently told to “chew on some leaves” when I mentioned my aversion to western medicine! OKAY! Sounds good to me, I try to do that on a daily basis!
Top Ten Healthy Uses for Castor Oil
Castor oil is a popular and versatile natural ingredient that has been used for centuries to promote health and well-being. It is derived from the seeds of the castor plant and is rich in nutrients that are essential for maintaining optimal health. Castor oil has many beneficial properties that can provide numerous health benefits when used regularly. Here, we will be discussing the top ten healthy uses for castor oil that you can start incorporating into your daily life, as I have. The thickness and stickiness of castor oil is beneficial for absorption, it stays where you put it and infuses more deeply into your skin to help promote over all well-being.
1. Promoting Hair Growth: Castor oil is known for its ability to promote hair growth. It contains ricinoleic acid, which is a natural antibacterial and antifungal agent that helps to prevent infections. Castor oil can also help to strengthen hair follicles, making it less prone to breakage and shedding. Applying a small amount of castor oil to your scalp and hair can help to promote healthier and stronger hair growth over time.
2. Moisturizing Skin: Castor oil is a great moisturizer for the skin. It has a high concentration of fatty acids that can help to deeply hydrate and nourish the skin. Castor oil can be applied directly to the skin, or it can be added to your favorite moisturizer for an added boost of hydration.
3. Relieving Joint Pain: Castor oil can help to relieve joint pain and inflammation. It has anti-inflammatory properties that can help to minimize swelling, redness, and pain. Applying castor oil to the affected area and gently massaging it can help to alleviate discomfort and improve your mobility.
4. Promoting Digestive Health: Castor oil has been used for centuries to promote digestive health. It works as a natural laxative that can help to relieve constipation and improve bowel movements. Due to its laxative properties, it is important to consume castor oil in moderation. A few drops of castor oil added to warm water or tea can help to promote healthy digestion. On the rare occasion that I have some stomach cramps, I also massage it into my abdomen.
5. Boosting Immune System: Castor oil is known to help boost the immune system. It contains ricinoleic acid and other antioxidants that can help to fight off harmful bacteria and viruses. Consuming castor oil regularly can help to improve your overall health and well-being. I try to use castor oil topically, on my lymph nodes, etc. I agree that taking too much internally can wreak minor havoc on your bowels.
6. Alleviating Menstrual Cramps: Castor oil has been used for centuries to relieve menstrual cramps. It works by increasing blood flow to the pelvic region and reducing inflammation. Applying castor oil to the lower abdomen and gently massaging it in can help to alleviate menstrual cramps and discomfort.
7. Improving Sleep Quality: Castor oil can also help to improve sleep quality. It contains a compound called ricin that has been shown to improve sleep and reduce insomnia. Applying a small amount of castor oil to your temples and the back of your neck before bed can help you relax and improve your sleep quality.I also rub castor oil into the bottom of our feet and wear socks for a better quality of sleep.
8. Promoting Wound Healing: Castor oil can help to promote wound healing due to its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Applying a small amount of castor oil to a wound can help to prevent infections and promote faster healing.

To me, my new BFF, castor oil, is a versatile and beneficial natural ingredient that can provide numerous health benefits when used regularly. From promoting hair growth to relieving joint pain, castor oil can help to improve your overall health and well-being. However, it is important to use castor oil in moderation (self-judge your toleration) and consult with your healthcare provider before using it for medicinal purposes.
I recognize that there are many great oils that can be used for all kinds of health promotion, or healing. This post was specifically about one that has little PR but is a mighty, mighty oil.

Have used castor oil for years for a multitude of reasons. We always have a bottle in the cupboard. I loved what you said about the over-utilization of medical practices. No one in our house has seen a doctor in decades. I have a 12 year old who has never met one. We simply do not use them, prefering natural medicine. Somehow we made it through the muzzling, poisoning and quarantining of the 'healthy' without any of us having so much as a cold in over five years, despite both myself and my husband working with the public everyday through every lockdown. We were and still are, treated like we have the plague because of our refusal to partake in quackery and have always been seen as weirdos because we're not running into doctors every other day, and doused with pharmaceuticals. Fair play to you Cindy, for promoting natural medicine.
A few other oils definitely worth mentioning: wheat germ oil, cod liver oil and oil of oregano. Many years ago my dog got distemper, wouldn't eat, drink and couldn't even stand up. The vet examined him and said it is distemper, and we need to just 'put him down'. I refused that idea, took him home and force-fed him nothing but cod liver oil and wheat germ oil. It took one week, and he completely recovered and lived many more years totally healthy. Oil of oregano has antibiotic properties, as well.
