CINDY
Yeah, absolutely. All right. So we have another amazing show for you. I already know this before we record it because all our shows are pretty amazing. But before we get into our topic for the day, you have something that you wanted to share with our listeners today.
DAKOTAH
yes so um some more news out of argentina um as i i think we might have mentioned it or mentioned argentina a little bit last week as well but um the trump administration has announced some new sanctions against christina fernandez de kirchner uh the main uh leader of the opposition to melee's madness in argentina um
And things are kind of heating up in a way because after Millay posted about it, he said Finn, like the end, and then he posted the announcement from Donald Trump. And then not too long after, Christina tweeted and she said, On the 24th of March, everyone is going to march because Vidya and Macera were never prohibited from
entering the United States. And these are two of the genociders who ruled Argentina during the Dirty War. And she's obviously pointing out the fact that she's being persecuted because she's popular, she represents the poor, yet someone who threw people from helicopters and tortured thousands was never prohibited from going to the United States, was never sanctioned.
So we'll see tomorrow. People are going to be taken to the streets for a couple different reasons, under the banner of the IMF Never Again, under Defending Christina, under the idea of memory, truth, and justice. I just wanted to point this out because it's another,
it's the latest measure that the United States has taken that could be seen as imperialist, an imperialist attack against a progressive leader who has done a lot for the poor in Argentina. And it also shows the affinity between the Trump and Marco Rubio State Department and Javier Millet in Argentina.
And I think it also is interesting because the closeness between Trump and Millay was very similar to the closeness between Trump and McCree, who was president from 2015 to 2019, and also took out an IMF loan, the largest in the history of the IMF. It was for $47 billion.
CINDY
Holy shit.
DAKOTAH
So I just think it's, you know, the parallels are really showing themselves. And, you know, if anyone who's listening doesn't know what the IMF does, basically the IMF is an international. I mean, I was going to say an international monetary fund. Exactly what it is.
CINDY
International Monetary Fund.
DAKOTAH
Right. And. they loan out money and it's very much controlled by the United States. They loan out money to countries in exchange for what they call structural adjustment. And what that means is they'll loan you money when you are underwater, but only if you are willing to privatize your services, um, cut budgets, cut the workforce, austerity,
basically this recipe seen tried. over and over again in Europe, in much of the world, and it doesn't work. And Christina, you know, led a government that was in opposition to the IMF. Her husband, who was president before her, returned the money that the previous government had taken out and refused to pay it back. And Now,
Cristina and the opposition in Argentina to Milay have sent a letter to the IMF saying, if you do grant a loan to Milay and this government, we will not recognize it if and when we win the next election. So that's another turn of events. But we're seeing a lot of, you know,
a lot like Evo Morales has come out and spoke about Cristina, this persecution, the leader of Cuba. Miguel, um, Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez has come out and expressed his solidarity with Christina in the wake of the United States interfering. Uh, so I just wanted to talk a little bit about that just to show that the imperialist
ambitions of the U S project are very much in full swing and one way or another, whether it's through economic war sanctions, prohibiting popular popular leaders from doing this, that or the other. Um, which can actually be more nefarious in a lot of different ways. And especially with Marco Rubio at the head of the State Department,
I think we're going to be seeing a lot more intensification and antagonism of much of Latin America.
CINDY
Right. As soon as that happened, I knew nothing good was going to come of that, especially for Latin America. And, you know, our listeners are pretty smart, I have to say. But I highly, highly recommend a book called Confessions of an Economic Hitman by John Perkins. And he was an economic hitman.
They're the ones who would proceed the loans and go into the countries. And if the leader didn't play ball with them, then he was either he or she. was either overthrown or murdered. So I also had John Perkins on Cindy Sheehan's Soapbox a couple times. Maybe I'll find those shows and post them for another day this week.
