The Hunter Biden Plea Deal Debacle: A Lesson in Privilege and Power
Hunter Biden, the garbage son of Joe Biden who has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons, is back in the headlines. This time, it's because of his federal court appearance in Delaware on July 26, 2023.
Hunter Biden was hoping for a plea deal that would give him immunity for future prosecution. But it appears that Judge Maryellen Noreika isn't one to rubber stamp anything, especially when it comes to privileged people who think they're above the law.
The fact that Hunter Biden was trying to strike a deal with the federal government is not surprising. After all, he has been under investigation for quite some time now. What is surprising, however, is that he thought he could get away with a plea deal that hinged on immunity for future prosecution. Who does he think he is? Oh, right - the son of the former Senator, Vice President, and sitting (sh!tt!ng?) POTUS. I mean, what are the chances that Judge Noreika would have agreed to such a deal anyway? Historically, it seemed that the Teflon Son was going to skate through the proceeding yesterday, but the judge was prompted to put a pause on the sweetheart plea deal. Too bad the crook Paul Manafort didn’t think of that one before he got seven-years in prison for being convicted of much less.
Even though unprecedented blanket immunity from further prosecution was on the table with the approval of US Attorney Leo Wise, things got even more interesting when Wise admitted that Hunter was still under investigation for other crimes, including FARA (Foreign Agent Registration Act). Judge Noreika said, “I have concerns about the agreement. I can’t let him pleas to something if he things he has protection from something and he doesn’t.” That's like a ticking time bomb waiting to go off. Of course, Judge Noreika saw right through the plea deal and rightfully rejected it and told the parties to go back to the drawing board. It's a good thing we have someone like her who seems to be unwavering in the face of powerful people and their lawyers.
The collapse of Hunter Biden's plea deal was also influenced by the IRS whistleblower testimony in Congress last week. These whistleblowers provided evidence that Hunter Biden had violated FARA. Apparently, Hunter Biden had been working for a Ukrainian gas company and failed to register as a foreign agent. How convenient. He was probably too busy spending all the money on drugs and prostitutes he made from that "job" to even think about following the law. That's usually how it works, right?
Now, some of you might be wondering why Hunter Biden is being investigated for violating FARA. After all, isn't that just a technicality? Well, not really. FARA is a federal law that requires anyone who is working on behalf of a foreign entity to register with the Department of Justice. It's not just an annoying bureaucratic process; it's actually necessary to ensure that foreign influence is not being wielded in our political system. But I suppose Hunter Biden, as the scion of the Biden Crime Family thought he was above that, too.
In conclusion, the Hunter Biden plea deal debacle is a perfect example of privilege and power gone wrong. Hunter Biden thought he could strike a deal that would give him immunity for future prosecution, but Judge Noreika put a stop to that. Hunter thought he was going to waltz in, then waltz right back out with blanket immunity for his drug-fueled, years long, crime spree. The collapse of his plea deal was also influenced by his (and, more importantly, his father’s) apparent violations of FARA, which is a serious matter. It's a reminder that no one SHOULD BE above the law, no matter how much money or power they have. Ah, the joys of privilege.
However, in the case of Side-Show Hunter, most of those roads lead right back to Sloppy Joe: The “leader” of the free world.
Grab some popcorn, things are getting weirder and I am looking forward to the next episode of Hunter Destroys Everything.

The optimistic take is that a circumspect and conscientious judge pulled the plug on the prospective plea deal because it was just too dodgy and lame to pass muster-- and, more importantly, that this might force the political and judicial fixers to subject Hunter to a more rigorous and disinterested prosecution regardless of their desire to protect and shield the Biden Crime Family from disgrace.
But, as Glenn Greenwald mentioned in passing during a commentary on the plea-deal breakdown, this may turn out to be a feint of sorts to allow the parties to revise the deal just enough so that everyone can sign off on it without arousing significant public blowback or losing face. For instance, they may modify Hunter's immunity terms so that he theoretically could be indicted and tried for other crimes-- but give private assurances that such future prosecutions will never be attempted.
The Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) institutional "Resistance" in the DOJ and law enforcement agencies (e.g. the FBI) transmogrified the always-dubious DOJ into a reprehensible Department of Lawfare. So it's nominally a Democratic Party project, as evidenced by the ongoing Stalinesque show trials and draconian sentences meted out to the January 6th Capitol "insurrectionists".
But I think that even if the Democrats in high office are ousted, a (presumably) Republican administration would let scumbags like Hunter skate too. I was never a Trump fan, but I admit that I enjoyed hearing him thunder "Lock her up!" when he was running against the odious Empress-in-Waiting Clinton; even for this inveterate cynic, hope sprang eternal.
That proved to be pure demagoguery-- Trump flinging red meat to his MAGA base. Once a politician successfully fools enough voters to be elected (or is chosen by the fixers), they revert to the expansive pseudo-charitable principle of "letting bygones be bygones"-- or, as Obama put it, "Look forwards, not backwards." Bah! Humbug! 🤨
