Dear Friends,
August 6th will be the 19th anniversary of when I, and about 75 others, marched towards Bush’s pig ranch in Crawford Tx so I could ask him, “For What Noble Cause,” did they start the war in Iraq that killed millions, including my son, Spc. Casey Sheehan (04/04/04)
Those 75 turned into thousands over those 29 days, because, I said, I would go back to California when Bush met with me, but, as we all know, he never did..
This book is a collection of the coverage that summer:
The courageous and principled publisher of the Lone Star Iconoclast (Crawford, Tx) Leon Smith passed away. He wrote editorials condemning and criticizing George W. Bush prior to the invasion of Iraq, who was an extremely popular person in that part of the country.
The Iconoclast covered Camp Casey in the summer of 2005 and published a book about Cindy Sheehan's protest, titled: The Vigil: 26 Days in Crawford Texas.
The Smith family has donated some books to Cindy Sheehan to use as a fundraiser for Cindy Sheehan's Soapbox,
For a minimum donation of $19.00, (for 19 years) Cindy Sheehan will inscribe a book to you (shipping/handling included). The Vigil is a day by day recount of the Camp Casey protest in Crawford Texas which garnered international attention after George Bush refused to answer Sheehan's simple question: What Noble Cause?---it is also filled with photos from that month in August of 2005.
The compelling inside story of Cindy Sheehan's vigil in Crawford, Texas, that redefined the Bush presidency. At the center of it all was Crawford's own local paper, The Lone Star Iconoclast. The Vigil is an invaluable record of the Iconoclast's coverage, with Sheehan herself providing a scenesetting foreword.
A high.stakes, blow by blow account of the events as they unfolded, The Vigil lets readers experience this vigil right along with the writers and participants as the paper's publisher (W. Leon Smith) and crew demonstrate a level of professional integrity that--to quote Sheehan herself--"shine[s] like a lone spark of integrity in the prairie darkness."

I remember reading about you in those days, Cindy, and admiring you from afar. I'm still in awe and honored to have become your friend.
I remember this and really admired you when you did it Cindy. I remember thinking at the time that the world couldn’t get any worse because of what GWB was doing. Little did I know, that about 20 years later we would be on the verge of being involved in three wars— Russia/ Ukraine, Israel/Palestine, and heading towards one with China. At the time of your encampment, most people were hesitant to speak out against the war out of fear of being labeled unpatriotic and the memories of 9/11 being drummed into our heads. And we were told lies that Saddam had WMD‘s and was involved with 9/11 and we had to spread democracy to the Middle East. The only other people who I remember, taking a particular stand against the war or against GWB at that time were the Dixie Chicks. I want to get your book, but I can’t figure out how to donate via PayPal. When I click on the donate “Bee Sweet” icon , it just opens up the bee photo.
