Thank you Cindy! What an enormously loving, brilliant, articulate, and courageous journalist and human being he was and still is - may his example and spirit inspire not only journalists but all of us to speak our truth.
Thank you for this remembrance, Cindy. John Pilger truly was a giant. I can't wait to listen to the two podcasts again. John came to my attention in the late 60s when I ran across his reports from Cambodia. If you can find the full film he produced: "Year Zero: The Silent Death of Cambodia" you won't fail to notice a definite all-too familiar story.
Cheers and blessings to you and yours in the new year 2024.
I first read a John Pilger article years ago, and have seen many of his documentaries since. "Stealing a Nation," about how the US/UK stole the Indian Ocean island of Diego Garcia during the 1960s and early 70s to make an Air Base, is the documentary that stands out off the top of my head. Pilger was an awesome and consistent critic of Empire. All I can say is the first time I read him, I said to myself: "This guy gets it."

This is where I 'met' John. There are still thousands of live munitions in the ground in Cambodia. Often they are met by a farmer tilling his patch and then 'kaboom!. They are called UXOs (unexploded ordnance). There are areas in Laos far worse- if you can imagine.
The mere mention of Heinz Kissinger's name chills my blood. Have a look at what they did to Laos- a neutral country like Cambodia that was not at war. For some perspective.
Keep carrying on in his stead, Cindy.
Enormous shoes that can only be aspired to.
A sad thing, but what inspiring memories.
A legend has gone. From an era when the legacy media actually employed true journalists.
Hear! Hear!
To our Creator we belong, to Him we shall return. RIP Mr. Pilger. Thank you for dedicating your earthly life to fighting the good fight.

Giant is the word.

*I said 'late 60s' but it had to have been the mid-to late '70s. Mea culpa...it's been a long, dark road!
RIP, John Pilger
thank you for covering all the warmongers you rightfully should have outlived
may your life and work will live on beyond their evil

Effing sad for me, a newspaper journalist from the 1970s into even NOW.

I’m sorry for your loss.
Cookie cutter, but authentic.
R.I.P. John PIlger!
Huge admirer and follower of John Pilger's exemplary journalism.
What a great loss! HE WILL BE MISSED!
If there was/is a 'Legacy' media, then John Pilger certainly qualifies.
Ohh noo
