Quite a thought provoking article. Thank you. I am deeply disturbed by America's monstrous war policy. I am fed up with their (US) stomping all over the World. Genocide of the Palestinians one of the most monstrous of crimes. I am at a loss as to why more People do NOT speak out.
As for Syria. I cannot help (again) but wonder, why no one (again) speaks out against the monstrous murderous US regime that is and has been stealing Syrian oil and will continue to do so until they (US) dry the land and ruin the People completely.
We can look around the World and see these Evils that are STILL being committed in the name of freedom and liberty. An absolute joke to anyone who believes we are Free.
We are treated differently as I am sure you have worked out. We are having a referendem (I cannot for the life of me figure out why as My People were here 1st) as to whether we can have a voice in Australia. Other than that. Our young men are still being murdered by the police, women treated as though we do not belong. Children not entitled to a full education. We still live below the poverty line. You know. No different to how First Nations People are treated in the US or anywhere white man has invaded.
You owe no apology. You are from a different Nation. 235 yrs in the making. We find out later this year whether we have a voice.
Make NO mistake. Our young men will still be murdered by Police. Our woman will continue to struggle. Our children left out. Unfortunately poverty takes front seat and poverty does not care what colour we are. Until poverty is addressed collectively. All peoples suffer. This enrages as we continue to pump money and weapons into NaziUkraine. I was raised (thank Mum and Dad) to despise war. For that.
We have a tv channel down here called NITV. There are a great many programs on First Nations Peoples in America. I have learnt much about this wonderful, colourful, brilliant Peoples from all the documentaries that are shown. From what I can gather. First Nations Peoples in the US are threated the same way as First Nations Peoples here in Australia. As second class citizens in their own land.
I've noticed that the coverage of Daniel Ellsberg's death focuses on the Pentagon Papers and completely omits all the courageous peace and justice work he did up to the last days of his life. As if he was just a character from the past and has no relevance to the state of world today. 😔
Very nice tribute to Daniel Ellsberg from you who knew him well.
I still struggle to figure out Israel's role in all this.
In short I think the British Empire revivalist (although revived is not strictly correct because it was never dead) explanation covers a *lot*: the financial black holes in the City of London and the Cayman Islands, the fact that Charlie-boy announced the "Great Reset" alongside Klaun Klaus, the long history of Britain's subverting of American democracy which includes the Rhodes scholars cult, the barefaced fascism unfolding in the colonies of Canada, New Zealand and Australia, along with the history of Britain's subjugation of India and China, vast areas of the earth.
They are experts at subterfuge and they play a very long game. Personally I think their goal besides fascism, hereditary rule, technocracy, and population reduction is the supremacy of the English language. Language is pretty fundamental.
Israel may be just a regional project and occasional scapegoat. I don't know but I think I know a lot more than I did three years ago.
Very interesting points. And, in historical context, one could argue (and many have and do) that Israel is a creation of the British Empire, the roots going back at least to the early 1900s.
It's worth remembering that peace is not correlated with left or right. For many years the Republicans were the party of peace and non-intervention. Warren Harding and Henry Ford made the same points you're making now, in the same language.
Bush Senior reversed this pattern by claiming war for the R side. Now there's some hint of a second reversal, perhaps heralded by Tucker Carlson.
I'm disappointed that Greenwald is making excuses for RFK JR.. If he was so easily "propagandized" by the Russiagate BS, he's not a very smart person. Also, if he had never thought about the billions going to Israel, where the hell is his head?
Yes. RFK Jr needs to learn how to say I don't know. "It's complex and both sides have had numerous deaths but yes the Palestinians are basically living in an apartheid state and it is horrible. I don't know but I will learn"....he needs me as a coach for Christsake. Life and these issues are nuanced. Obama was horrible but he knew how to say things so no one became too enraged. RFK Jr ...what concerns me actually is he as his family has said...emotionally ill? I mean who could blame him..but all that really means is you need a lot of help and compassion and wisdom from those around you and I don't think any of those people except Kucinich have that...so Kucinich needs to speak up and be a wise counselor. Not all Kennedy's are made of the same stuff.
It's not proportional but he is now a politician right? There are ways to say things that you don't have to recant later. I should run for Mayor of Berkeley and show people how it's done. It's taken me years to learn how to do it to achieve change...with family, with a college, with lovers....one does not want a hatchet through their head or one's home burned to the ground. Do they? Because that's a whole other mental health issue.
His message is becoming increasingly muddled, like he is trying to appeal to certain voters. I used to respect him because he was NOT a politician. Is he starting to believe he can recreate Camelot or something???
RFK, Jr is good on so many issues, and maybe needs more areas and time to learn. He is open to change. Please give him some slack. Remember Biden is the Dem "alternative."
Nope, no slack, especially on issues of supreme importance.
Since his first Roger Waters debacle, he has only doubled down on his Israel stance. There is zero hope in the duopoly, and zero hope in the corrupt election process. You know this.
And yes, Joanna, good idea: " Kennedy needs to make a new video saying he has great empathy for the trauma the people of Palestine have suffered and he will do everything in his power to create peaceful and respectful coalitions between the two countries."
My parents did not want me to enlist in the army and go fight the war in Viet-Nam, but once I did, they supported me, because they wanted me to know that they loved me, even though I made a big mistake. I assume you did not want your son to go fight the war in Iraq, and I assume that you did not keep reminding him of what a big mistake he had made while he was in combat. RFK.jr's son made his own decision to go to war, which I think was a big mistake. RFK.jr did not reject his son because of his son's big mistake. If you want to villainize these two, that's your choice, but I disagree with you.
Those who intend to participate in their state's Democratic Party primary/caucus can vote for mentally-challenged Joe, which brings with it giggling Kamala and war-mongering Victoria Nuland; or Marianne Williamson, all of whom support the U.S. war machine against Russia and PR China. Or they can vote for RFK.jr, who states that he is against the war machine, against big pharma, against big fossil, against the deep state, against mass surveillance, against big banks, against corporate capture of the government, against citizens united, against the espionage act, will pardon Julian Assange, supports single payer health care, supports protecting the environment, and supports Israel (ugh).
Whether he lying just like all the other politicians - I do not know. But what I do know is that war against Russia and/or PR China could lead to thermo-nuclear annihilation, and the only candidates who say they want to avoid thermo-nuclear war are Trump, RFK.jr, and Cornel West.
Choose wisely my dear friends so that future generations will not perish.
It's on Twitter now..this post...neo cons...how to destroy the US...they are a great SUCCESS and RFK Jr needs to WTFU...but yeah I get it all now....PUKE
Cindy specifically ...did you listen to Taibbi? He is defending RFK Jr again because RFK Jr said pull back from conflicts with China etc and then pulled back on what he had said....my problem is Taibbi ( a bit) but especially RFK Jr flip flops in a manner that makes me suspicious and I intimately know what that means: trauma...extreme swings can indicate early unresolved trauma....just saying...then Taibbi says "independent of his policy views"......that is simply looking the other way because you NEED to. So this entire conversation between these two is tainted by a lack of balanced critical thinking and points to knee jerk reactions in Kennedy. I don't buy it. Kennedy needs to make a new video saying he has great empathy for the trauma the people of Palestine have suffered and he will do everything in his power to create peaceful and respectful coalitions between the two countries. Taibbi is trying to be fair but we are not talking about a debate in social science class...we are talking about an election for the most influential leader in the world.....RIGHT?
As for Taibbi, with some strong pros and a few cons, I read the transcript and will never forget his patronizing attempted denigration and humiliation of David Ray Griffin 5 or 6 years AFTER Sept. 11. I have Griffin in Ellsberg's league, historically. This colors my overall "trust" in Taibbi.
He did a mild hit piece against me in the Rolling Stone when I was in Crawford for the first Camp Casey in summer of 2005. Still, I have interviewed him on the Soapbox and agree that he has done good work on the twitter files. Not great, but good.
Like most every other political positioning, left and antiwar/peace movements seem to have become more hijacked and domesticated by binary neocon-neolib ideology for capital rule over the past half century. That an authoritarian left now leads the charge into a progressive police state on unquestionable premises of pseudoscience, all too like a cult, from covid to climate change to trans-humanist gendering, should at least give cause to question what the hell has happened.
The rise of the nonprofit industrial complex to further public-private partnerships of the corporate state, aka fascism, provides one point of reference, as philanthro-capitalism has steadily colonized organizations down to the grassroots, consolidating controlled opposition at least since the Powell Memo (1971) outlined this strategy. The influence of funding was more potent than ever in the age of austerity imposed by neoliberalism and globalization, as NGOs monopolized a movement market to direct attention upon disconnected issues of identity politics and woke culture wars, divide-and-rule strategy to the exclusion of the potentially united front of class consciousness (as emerged somewhat with Occupy - until soon crushed), able to challenge the class war steadily waged against us all in diverse ways. (Essentially the same cooptation was accomplished with 'the right', as with the Tea Party movement, courtesy of the Kochs.)
The same class war is behind the 9/11 war of terror and the new abnormal war of bioterror, whatever ruling class faction may be leading the charge. Will we get anywhere with any of the wars waged by globally organized crime against humanity without some vision of a better world among us all for the sharing?
"That an authoritarian left now leads the charge into a progressive police state on unquestionable premises of pseudoscience, all too like a cult, from covid to climate change to trans-humanist gendering, should at least give cause to question what the hell has happened." 100%

R.I.P. Daniel Ellsberg.
Thank you.
Trish.
yep, very true!
My Country (Australia) is also apart of this monstrous, murderous, World wide regime.
I think that was made clear from day one. I am curious how the aboriginal people were treated?
We are treated differently as I am sure you have worked out. I am more familiar with how the indigenous Native Americans were/are treated in "our democracy".

of course, antiwar voices are marginalized, even on so-called "left" media.
What a beautiful man he was...he was so admired and loved. And he was my neighbor...sort of! Anyway it makes me not hate living here quite as much.
Very nice tribute to Daniel Ellsberg from you who knew him well.

-edit-
added population reduction to the list of their goals.
Not because they believe in Malthus because they don't, thats just a cover.
Its because they want to reduce the numbers of those potential revolutionaries who are left out of their technocratic schemes.
Very interesting points. And, in historical context, one could argue (and many have and do) that Israel is a creation of the British Empire, the roots going back at least to the early 1900s.

Glenn Greenwald Reflects on Viral RFK Jr. Interview regarding Israel

I'm disappointed that Greenwald is making excuses for RFK JR.. If he was so easily "propagandized" by the Russiagate BS, he's not a very smart person. Also, if he had never thought about the billions going to Israel, where the hell is his head?

According to the UN since 2008, there have been 297 Israeli fatalities and 6297 palestinian deaths---this is NOT proportional.

Israeli soldiers shoot dead a 2 year old palestinian baby:

Exactly. There is no equivalence but Israeli lives seem to matter more than Palestinian lives.
In Biblical terms, that's about 2100 eyes for an eye.
Sorry, 21 eyes for an eye.
His message is becoming increasingly muddled, like he is trying to appeal to certain voters. I used to respect him because he was NOT a politician. Is he starting to believe he can recreate Camelot or something???
Good point. This kind of reflects Cindy's initial reservation; he kicks butt in his specific area of expertise.
AND...I will always support his work with CHD and exposing Dr. Falsie.

he won't, because he doesn't.
I am going to ask Dennis Kucinich to arrange a meeting between RFK Jr. and Norman Finkelstein for educational purposes.
That assume RFK is ignorant
or I'm using hopeium to get a conversion on the road to Dmascus
oops, Iowa & New Hampshire
p.s. he's against war with Russia AND PR China - so he can't be all bad
After calling Putin a thug and financially supporting his son who went to Ukraine as a war tourist to machine gun "Rooskies."

same to you my dear Camp-Casey sister
Sums it up well.
So do I put this in my list of Bookmarks called "Nine one one four one one", or my list called "Fourth Reich"?
Going with the latter - because Slava Bandera.
Slava Bandera, indeed.

I'm operating on 4 hours of sleep and 40 students asking me online questions. I am as fried as a potato chip...so the answer is one of those two...
