At the beginning of Covid, I decided to cut out sweets and eat as healthy as possible to avoid getting sick. After just a couple of days, I lost any craving for sugar. I was surprised it happened so fast. I do have dark chocolate, because as you say, it's actually good for you. All of our meals are cooked from scratch, which entails many hours of chopping vegetables, but it's worth it. Who knows, it may be why my husband and I have never had Covid.
I think the chopping is at least as important as the eating. When I spend time in the kitchen, getting my hands dirty and wet, and figuring out new tricks for handling various food items, I'm exercising muscles and growing the mind. (Also I'm NOT in front of the stupid computer!)
All of that contributes to your gut health---when the prep begins, the meal begins, so all of that contributes to your healthy gut and overall digestion! I like to have fresh air while I am prepping as well!
