I think the "nefarious entity" is the Democratic Party which, for decades now, has tossed out faux Left puppets such as AOC and Bernie to lend some succor to its increasingly diminished working class constituency. Identity Politics is also put forth as a lifeboat for its upper middle class base as the West sinks below the waves and is being supplanted by the BRICS alliance.
What really rules the day, and the political class in the West, is finance monopoly capital, that is, Capitalism in an advanced state of decay.
