Didn't Jimmy Carter, and his nonprofit, go to Venezuela for the elections over the decades and personally observe them and declare them to be the most democratic? I believe he said if only the US had such elections.... Kevin Zeese must be turning over in his grave. I remember when he and Margaret occupied the Venezuelan Embassy in DC to prevent US appointed-president-of-Venezuela Guido from taking over.

I again dust off part of a comment from a few years back that ought to warm the confirmation-biased cockles of your heart 💔; it was a response to an article (Glenn Greenwald, maybe?) with the blurb "The Vermont Senator's relationship to the Democratic Party descends from loyal support to abject subservience."

Bernie's carefully-crafted, careerist symbiotic relationship with the Democratic Party was always a product of crass self-promoting political pragmatism in the basest sense of the term: a mutual back-scratching subservience.

Ultimately, Bernie is a wily, self-serving old fraud. Lest that statement be objected to as "ageist", I will balance it by adding that he used to be a wily, self-serving younger fraud.

He milked the "principled independent gadfly" shtick to a fare-thee-well-- although apparently a core of devotees weren't troubled or enlightened by the spectacle of this would-be gadfly stooping to reverently and deferentially kiss Empress-in-Waiting Clinton's feet at the 2012 DNC, and in the process leaving his most devoted followers twisting slowly in the wind. Then he repeated the performance in 2016; the 2012 "Last Hurrah" theme gave way to a "Comeback Kid" plotline, but the pretense of critical opposition melting into partisan capitulation remained the same.

Hapless, submissive, and desperate progressive-liberals either forgot or ignored the wisdom expressed in the "Fool me once..." maxim; Team Sanders accordingly fooled them twice.

Critics of Amerikan culture have famously deplored its fatuous reverence of, and obsession with, Youth. Remember how in 1960, the world thrilled to a youthful president seemingly bursting with "vigor"? Yet somehow the current power elite is dominated by elderly, though not venerable, frauds, charlatans, and mountebanks.

Of course, they were all around to witness the fate of that youthful, vigorous president. No doubt it influenced them to find a less risky politics more conducive to the goal of, as Star Trek's Vulcans say, living long and prospering. 🖖🏻 😡
