I have gradually learned since my son died in 2004 that balance in life is key to my sanity. My grandbabies range from 18-months to 16-years, so days like this are usually very happy ones for our close-knit family. I think many activists believe that we have to be serious all the time to make people think we are serious. I have a different approach—if we don’t enjoy our lives and our families and our friends, then, what do we fight for? Bland lives filled with anger and darkness? No thank you.
Also, to borrow a theme from Que Mala, I was born into a working-class family in Inglewood, CA—my father was an electrician and my mom stayed at home My parents bought our home when I was three and we participated in working-class activities—like sports (with the high salaries and high cost of tickets, it’s become elite). I am still Dodger Blue and I recognize the historical significance of the Dodgers v. Yankees rivalry. Congrats to my Dodgers and we fans!
