May I suggest you get the Stability Vaccination? Don't forget, it's for others, not you! I once was asymptomatic unsteady and a risk to all other pedestrians. It's been tested on 6 worms, so no need to doubt its efficacy.

I had written a reply like 12 hours ago which said something like:

I am on my 8th Stability Vaccination booster---it's not working very well.

Expand full comment

Yeah I heard Stability vaccination is "safe and effective". Dr. Falsi said so.

And when you fall, it's not due to the jab but another made up virus 😂

Serious POLL question:

Is anyone here getting the seasonal flu vaccine, or the flu shot for seniors?

Why or why not?

Expand full comment

I would be in the NO column.

Why? I’ve not had one yet and I’d hate to ruin my perfect record.

I was born in the UK. For half my life there was no “flu season”. People on occasion would get the Common Cold but a genuine new flu virus was a fairly rare thing. Then all off a sudden, and I’m sure completely coincidentally, upon arrival of a flu vaccine it became as regular as as Christmas and Easter.

Amazing!

Also my mother, a crazy conspiracy theorist long before her time, bought me up on insane myths like “an apple a day keeps the doctor away”. Bless her heart, if only she’d hung around long enough for Big Pharma to put her straight.

Death doesn't concern me. I actually welcome it. Disability on the other hand does. I had yet another trip to the ER yesterday and lost what little respect I had left for allopathic doctors. That idiot refused to listen and didn't hear a word I said. It's beyond absurd my friends.

and if you're a woman it's worse. and if you're an old woman, forget it..... I have a 92 year old friend going through hell with the "medical" system. and she hiked down the Grand Canyon when she was 60 years old!

I highly recommend qi gong.

https://youtube.com/@HoldenQiGong

Also, feldenkrais is good to teach the brain how to coordinate with the body.

https://youtube.com/@TaroIwamoto

Both are low impact but helped me a lot more than the gym or walking.

Expand full comment

thanks!

I only do low impact. My daughter did qi gong when she was in her 20s for a p.e. credit---she really liked it. I think they teach it at the community center, as well.

I thought it was woo woo complicated before doing it.

It's pretty awesome in that there's a combination of many aspects.

It's like meditation without the annoyance of sitting in one place. A moving meditation!

-breathing

-range of motion

-control

Feldenkrais is similar but more on the level of practicing detail of movement.

Together, they pack a punch! My back issues which only got temporarily fixed by chiro, faded away gradually. These days I go for an adjustment every few months, if I remember to do it 😂

Working out in the pool saves me chiro visits. I can crack my own back there.

Yoga for me. That tree pose has kept me from falling for years, and in MN the ice in the winter is killer. Yoga keeps me supple, balanced and my bones strong.

Pilates also good for core strength. There is a combo called PiYo (Pilate/Yoga) also but it is fairly rigorous and I found it quite challenging.

Hear, hear. Vitally important information, Cindy. Four years ago, at 70 when I was in superb athletic shape, I sustained a low-back injury that has me in debilitation pain every single day. I still do (some) exercises, painful though they may be, every day to maintain what strength, balance and flexibility I have left.

See my post just done above about the fascianator. My sciatica is gone now. I'm in better shape now than 10 years ago, and I remember the end of WW2.

Thank you, Jon. I looked up thefascianator.com and see that it is a program of foam rolling. I agree that it is effective. I have three foam rollers and they are part of my daily therapy routine. I also use theracanes (theracane.com), tennis balls and an assortment of other tools for SMR (self-myofascial-release) I take classes in Yamuna therapy (yamunausa.com) weekly. I also get deep-tissue, fascial release and realignment sessions (90 minutes/week) from a pain-management bodyworker.

Expand full comment

NO, This goes well beyond foam. Those were the early versions. This one is a PVC pipe of about 30 inches and about 3 inches in diameter covered with a thin cloth. Much harder and more effective in deep tissue work.

Yes, understood. I have the hard plastic rollers as well.

More ideas? Yes. I have had significantly better health--stamina, looser, less pain, etc.. by use of thefascianator(.com) when my son introduced me to it AND its inventor 3 years ago when I was in Hawai'i. That man, Anthony Chrisco, is a world authority of the fascia of the body, and from there he conducts a class which I have done with him on-line some 500 or so times. It gave me the discipline to do it with him, as it is so easy to put off "to another time." It will feel difficult and awkward at first, but now I can do the nearly one hour routine easily at an age significantly older than Cindy!

Thank you for this much needed health hack, Cindy. I take Anastrozole, so I need to take calcium and Vitamin D every day for bone health

Vit D is essential. I have never broken anything bigger than a toe/finger and I'd like to keep it that way.

Check into getting a DEXA Scan now that you have Medicare, Cindy.

It will check your bone density.

I have osteopenia, so I am checked every two years

I have a biometric scale and my bone density is excellent.

Expand full comment

yes, but you have to be careful with Vitamin D supplements. Doctor said my labwork this year showed I was slightly elevated on Vitamin D but not to worry. But too much can be toxic. https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/nutrition-and-healthy-eating/expert-answers/vitamin-d-toxicity/faq-20058108

Expand full comment

It's actually pretty hard to get to a "toxic" level of vitamin D. My level is about 90, when taking 5000 IU/day. As long as you also take 100mcg of K2, you'll be fine. The FDA and Mayo Clinic recommendation of 600 IU/day is ABSURDLY low. And what they say about side effects of "too much" is just ridiculous. I would sure like to know what your doctor considered "slightly elevated". Here's Dr. Campbell talking about vitamin D dosing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3_t-EQIy0s He gets it right.

Expand full comment

You know when lab work comes back and there's a range for each thing on the lab chart... I was slightly above the range for Vitamin D. The concern about too much Vitamin D is getting Hypercalcemia. I pay attention to this stuff now because my Dad had sky high Potassium which was toxic Hyperkalemia. Is K2 the same as Potassium? I googled and it says they are two different things.

Expand full comment

The range on my labwork for vitamin D is 30-100. If you were over 100, I'm sure your doctor would have freaked out. He/she must have a much lower top range than that. K2 isn't potassium. It keeps excess calcium from the vitamin D from going into your arteries.

Expand full comment

My Vitamin D is 101.1 on the chart ... ok now I should freak out?

Not I. Why not? I never have before. I haven’t been given any new evidence to begin. Most people I know who get ill with the seasonal flu got their flu shot. You?
