While I'm at it, I was super scared of the Wicked Witch in the Wizard of Oz when I was a kid. And those flying monkeys, swooping out of the sky and grabbing little girls and their little dogs too. :)
I remember once somebody quoted Margaret Hamilton, who played the witch, as saying she hoped one day someone would have the presence of mind to say "ding dong the witch it dead" at her funeral. She sounded like someone with a great sense of humor.
The image of Gene Wilder reminded me his version of Willy Wonka scared me shitless whan I was a kid. I thought the Oompa Loompas were super creepy too.
But that also reminds me one of my favorite horror-comedies is Young Frankenstein (that's Frahnkensteen) with Gene Wilder.
Yes, I'd call it 100% comedy too. I thought some people would consider it horror since it uses the Frankenstein story and other horror iconography. But it's really mocking Frankenstein, or having fun with it.
Like I said in my Top 10 horror, I never thought the monster movies were scary---Frankenstein, Wolfman, Dracula, Creature from the Black Lagoon, etc. Now, Bram Stoker's Dracula starring Gary Oldman was scary.
Warm Bodies! Yes! I was thinking our tastes were mutually exclusive, since I don't care for horror. Unless it's horror-comedy that is good comedy, or horror-romance that is good romance, or horror-sci-fi that is good sci-fi.
I generally avoid Zombie movies and books, but there was a really good book series by Yvonne Woon. The first in the series was called "Dead Beautiful." It was about bigotry. Basically in the book, zombies were stuningly beautiful until they got to a certain age ( maybe 18--I don't recall) and if the person who had their soul was still alive, their bodies broke down. I had heard the concept before that if a child dies and is not buried within 3 days, it turns into a zombie and its soul passes to a new baby. Anyway, in the series, there is a school where kids from zombie-hunting families attended alongside zombies but the non-zombie students weren't informed. It was set up by non-zombies as an experiment. So a girl whose parents were killed by zombies is sent to the school by her grandfather and she falls in love with the boy whose soul she shares. But only one of them can survive as a person after he reaches that certain age and they both want to sacrifice for each other and so they need to find a cure for the zombie state such that they can both survive.
I really disliked "World War Z" because they made it okay in the movie for Brad Pitt to kill lots people who were diseased and that in itself was sick. Isn't that what happened during the scamdemic? The ending of WWZ reminded a friend who saw it with me of the German death camps.
MORE! 'MONSTER HOUSE', 'PARANORMAN', 'FRANKENWEENIE', CABIN IN THE WOODS',' LOVE AT FIRST BITE', 'WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS', REANIMATOR TRILOGY. And for real cool moody vibes, 'NIGHTBREED'. And who can forget 'BEETLEJUICE'! I have not seen the new sequel yet.
I found "Fido" free to watch on Tubi, if you can stand all the ads you have to watch. I'm going to try to watch it sometime. It sounds pretty good. https://tubitv.com/movies/520259/fido
Fun fact: Tye Sheridan is my wife's cousin. Great guy with a bunch of good movies to his credit ... Ready Player One and X-men were blockbusters, but I think my favorite was "Mud."

I love, love, love Young Frankenstein, but is it really “horror?” To me, it’s 100% comedy.

My favorite sub genre! Adore the difficult horror/comedy mix! All the suggestions here are ACE.
Some of the best ones are animated like 'A NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS', 'THE CORPSE BRIDE', 'CORALINE'.
We love those movies!

Great list, thanks! I suggest "Night Of The Living Deb". Always makes me laugh (could explain a lot :)...
Oh, DEB, not Dead. My eye is still trying to heal. LOL
haha! I was wondering if you'd catch that :)
NOTLD was on my Top Ten horror movies. Scared the crap out of me when I was 11.
here's another free movie site link that works for me (and my VPN)...

I can stand ads....but thanks for the link so people can check it out.
Great flick, really!
Agree with the first two but you are missing Army of Darkness and Tucker & Dale vs. Evil.
I have a feeling you'd love Tucker & Dale vs. Evil as the underlining message is that conflict is the product of prejudice and hidden agendas.
I am not a fan of the Evil Dead series, actually.
Thanks!

Great list Cindy, zombies are zany 😜
