I was born in LA (Glendale - but I was conceived in Newark, NJ), and spent the first decade of my life up and down the coast of CA from La Jolla to Millbrae. It was always beautiful weather (except for the Santa Ana winds), and we always walked to school. Didn't even board a school bus until we moved to the NY area, specifically LoNG Island (a not-very-good-place to reside). In NY, the bullying, targeting my older sister who suffered endlessly at the hands of the girls on the bus.

As an east coaster my first impressions of CA came from the Beach Boys, and they were great impressions. Sunshine, blue ocean, beaches.
I also remember a show called "Where the Action Is" hosted by Paul Revere and the Raiders (?) that took place on a California beach.

I did end up living in LA in the early 90s. So I experienced an earthquake, the LA riots, and the Nicole Simpson murder.
