As I told you way back at Celente's Occupy Peace "rally" in Kingston NY, given the small turnout and lack of coverage and follow-up, I wasn't optimistic that much would come of it. Short of catastrophe or epiphany, I still am not optimistic; but catastrophes rarely result in well-thought-out and responsible responses, and epiphanies rarely happen on large scale. So I guess we're fucked.
Yes. Thats the solution...community. In the early 70s I hitched from RI to SF...lived there a few yrs. Post hippie as "back to the land" to hold. Moved to Chico and there found a beautiful music, organic food,alternative community. Farmers,cowboys,students,hippies. There was real cooperation and tolerance. Fast forward the 80s..Coke took hold and greed and selfishness grew. Of course the Butte County DA and Sheriff's were ruthless. There's still a bit of it left but so many homeless an greedy landlords. Fast forward Maui... 2008. 40 acre off grid permaculture land. Shacks and alternative energy, one day a week pot luck- work day in exchange.
Lots of comraderie,fun and cooperation. The owner,a old hippie, called himself "benevolent dictator" but no big deal . Then some X tried to blackmail him No dice. So the so she finked the place out to Building Inspector...even though it was Ag Zone we all had to move out...tare down the structures.
Sorry to ramble but changing building codes could aliviate a lot of homeless and housing crisis which no one seems to talk about let alone fix as this capitalist military madness certainly doesn't care a bit. Community is essential. 50 yrs later? I don't know...
