US presidents have long relied on war--conventional war, war on drugs, war or terrorism, etc. to garner or elicit popular support when their popularity or support is sagging or falling. A recent poll that shows Biden and Trump tied at 43% support each could certainly be sufficient to call for this time-tested strategy. The cost of such action in itself should be enough to totally discredit it, but we know this is not the case. Is is possible that the proxy war in Ukraine has too much run its course, thus we are going to get a booster shot of additional fear-mongering and war impetus?
