I was recently libsplained that I should stick to talking about things that we all agree upon, not “divide” us—which is inherently dumb, because with a global population of eight-billion, give, or take, what subject would that be? I can’t think of one issue that unites everyone in my household (except the dogs are awesome and the cats are rockstars), let alone an entire country, or planet. What people like this are saying is that they would prefer that I concentrate on subjects that don’t make them “uncomfortable.” Suck it up, Buttercup; open the floodgates.
There are some basic human needs that everyone of us need to survive: food, air, and water. Of course, there are other things that most need like shelter, love, companionship, etc, but every person on this planet needs the basic three: food, air, and water.
What constitutes “food” can be the aspect of the Top Three essentials that can, and does, divide us: what we want to eat; what we don’t want to eat; what’s available to eat; what tastes good; what is gross, but healthy; what is yummy, but super-unhealthy; and you get the picture.
Every single one of my grandchildren, except the baby, has asked me this question at least five times each: “if this food, (or ingredient) is bad, or makes us sick, why do they put it in the food? How can they sell it?” The answer is complex, but in many other countries many of the ingredients in ultra processed food and other consumable ARE banned. In Russia GMOs are banned, so what the hell is wrong with the murderous profiteers here in Dystopilandia? The answer is basic: corporate profits are ALWAYS more important that the health of the population. Overweight and metabolically compromised patients are better for the profits of the Medical Industrial Complex and students who don’t get enough nutrients to keep their brains awake in class are easier to indoctrinate and trap in the Death Cult of Dystopilandia.
I see Monsters and, admittedly, after many years fighting for my own health and the health of my family, I have become a little jaded and a lot skeptical. I don’t think it’s disordered to question everything we consume—will this support my health, or destroy it?
I am on day 313 of not eating any processed foods and, besides accidentally losing over 50 pounds, I have become clearer in my own brain and metabolically, stronger. Two illnesses have recently swept through my family, but, me, the oldest one who should be the most vulnerable was the only one who got through the situation unscathed.
Anyway, is talking about how we should all dumb highly processed foods from our lives divisive, or does it bring us closer together. I am trying to feed just myself on a very, very small Social Security payment every month, and I am only purchasing whole foods and very slightly processed food with no chemicals/additives like my mushroom infused coffee. I don’t eat out, nor do I eat the increasingly expensive fast food options AND I don’t pay for any prescriptions drugs. I feel like if eating clean is a priority, we will find the $$$$$
Ms. Dockerty is one of the people I follow on YouTube and I found her recent post very instructive. But beware, you may never eat UPF again—-which is a victory!
I mean, was this okay to talk about? I hope I didn’t offend anyone by my enthusiasm and love for good health!

Wow! 73% of foods in US grocery stores are ultra-processed. Gross! TV adverstising is a huge pusher of these foods especially aimed at children and families struggling to stretch their food dollars. And she points out that 'convenience' is also a big factor. Of course, it's a lot simpler for a Mom working two jobs to pick up some McNuggets for the kiddies on the way home from work. It's very sad. Great presentation. And while I know about processed foods, I didn't realize there was another category. The processing is disgusting beyond words.
I think it's great that you talk about this subject. Our food is so much worse than most people know. I cringe at what most people I know consume.
