AESOP'S FABLE: THE FARMER AND THE VIPER
One winter a Farmer found a Viper frozen and numb with cold, and out of pity picked it up and placed it in his bosom. The Viper was no sooner revived by the warmth than it turned upon its benefactor and inflicted a fatal bite upon him; and as the poor man lay dying, he cried, "I have only got what I deserved, for taking compassion on so villainous a creature."
MORAL: Kindness is thrown away upon the evil.
Sheehan's Fable: THE CANDIDATE AND THE VOTER
One election season, a citizen saw a politician on the TV box who was promising wonderful, magical things. The citizen saw the politician and took pity on it; made phone calls on its behalf; sent money to its campaign; and ultimately voted for it. The citizen cried with jubilation when it won the election.
After it was sworn in, it, of course, broke every promise it had made to this poor citizen and the citizen cried, "that's what I get for falling for the bullshit of a politician yet one more time---I have only got what I deserved."
MORAL: Votes and time are thrown away upon the “lesser” evil.

Yes, the story is as old as time itself. Serpents have been promising one thing, then delivering the opposite ever since the Garden of Eden.
So true. This post made me jog my memory to recall there were 12 Aesop’s fables/animals. The one I always heard the most was the boy who cried wolf and also the ant and the grasshopper.
