Conyers turned out to be a real scumbag...🤧

Even before Conyers insidiously reversed course on his righteous pursuit of impeaching Dubya-- it was said that after the Dems swept the 2006 Congressional elections, the triumphant Gorgon Pelosi kept Conyers' (and other supposedly progressive “better Democrats”) gonads in a jar in her office-- I had an experience or insight that belatedly opened my Third Eye 👁 to Conyers' hypocrisy and mendacity:

In 2004, I eagerly went to see Michael Moore’s much-anticipated film “Fahrenheit 9/11”; it included an exchange between Michael Moore and Conyers that both disturbed and puzzled me. I should say that at the time I was still a naïve “progressive” myself, and accepted the vacuous notion that the only “pragmatic” path to political salvation in the US was to elect “more and better Democrats”.

In that interview segment, Conyers– supposedly “one of the good guys” in Congress– explains (or confesses) to Moore that of course no congressperson actually read The Patriot Act before it was overwhelmingly enacted into law.

Like virtually all modern omnibus legislation, The Patriot Act is a closely-written, complex, technically abstruse opus composed by third parties: bureaucrats, lawyers, lobbyists, technical experts, and Congressional staffers. FWIW, individual Elected Misrepresentatives, e.g. none other than Joe Biden, have also claimed credit for “writing” this draconian legislation.

The actual authors were not altruistic angels or disinterested, neutral “experts” striving to create just laws for the benefit of We the People and the common weal; they were loyal, willing servants of their compromised and corrupt government and its capitalist overclass masters.

Besides, the Elected Misrepresentatives themselves are much too busy scheming, glad-handing, and fundraising to sit around and read the legislative dreck they vote upon; they have staff to do the heavy reading, writing, and lifting for them. The nominal legislators are simply the glorified salespersons who sell the adulterated products to the public.

That brief interview stuck in my mind because of the way Conyers drolly disabused Moore and the viewing audience of the civics-class expectation that legislators actually read the laws they pass, and that their votes reflect their well-informed, sober, dispassionate assessment of the laws’ merits, or lack therof.

Conyers clued us in with his characteristic sly smile, reminiscent of the Cheshire Cat in Wonderland, and with a characteristic roguish twinkle in his eye.

As I mentioned, at the time I thought Conyers was on “our” side, somewhat like a popular “cool” high school teacher or coach who shares behind-the-scenes faculty/administrative gossip with students. But I was confused by Conyers’ jovial, winking implication that the “inside information” he’d let us in on was a grand joke of some kind.

Something felt very wrong, but at the time I was so politically unsophisticated, and so anti-Bush, that I couldn’t put my finger on it.

Although the film addressed broader domestic and geopolitical crises, the brief Conyers segment worried me afterwards; it was like a popcorn kernel stuck between two back teeth. Eventually, the light bulb turned on 💡 and the significance of this exchange dawned on me: Conyers wasn’t laughing WITH us at all; he was laughing AT us.

It was indeed a “grand joke”, but We the People were (and remain) the butt of the joke. 😠

I think you are right - as long as you are equally against Trump and crew, and the vast majority of both BOUGHT OFF WAR PARTIES and their continued support for sacrificing Ukranian and Russian lives along with the Genocide 9f Palestinians carried out by Israel, the U.S. and other Nations. The BEAST is Corporate Capiitalism and the drive and plan for World Dominance by any means possible. No lives, but their own actually matter - oh and family and friends- of course. However Nuclear War would definitely put a wrench in the whole Works.

Shrub should have been impeached, no doubt. The democrat chickens simply refused to go after the republican chicken hawks. They didn’t even have to use the war. They could have merely used his practice of signing legislation and issuing concomitant “signing statements “ that said he wouldn’t comply with what he just signed. That way they could have gotten rid of him and preserved the precious war. But then the real president would have taken over. I too was an anti war democrat back then. They just got tired of being the lovable losers (Bernie), and have finally become power mad insane blankety blanks.

As I contemplate all the horrific events of the past quarter-century or so, and the abominable waste and harm that is being inflicted on the planet and >99% of its peoples, I continually wonder about those <1% who hold the reins of power here in The West. Are they certifiably insane, sociopaths and psychopaths not only little concerned with anyone else's welfare and happiness but actively displaying sadistic, or suicidal and ecocidal tendencies?

Or is there a plan that requires they act like they do?

It's important to note that the 1% couldn't cause any harm to anyone unless they had their minions doing the dirty work. Human beings are deeply flawed and will follow anyone and commit any kind of atrocities if they can be convinced it's for the 'greater good'. Thus we have the Good Germans who executed Hitler's orders, the American military soldiers who committed atrocities in Afghanistan and Iraq (and almost any third world country you can name) and even the covid clowns in our medical system who executed Biden's orders to jab everyone down to babies knowing full well the harm these injections were doing.

The sooner we can identify within ourselves that weakness and stop blaming the 1% as the sole cause of systemic economic, environmental and social collapse, the sooner we can begin to heal ourselves, our communities, our countries. Change begins locally. Our inability/unwillingness to confront power on a small scale against the tyrants in our midst, makes it difficult to impossible to find the courage to fight against the psychopaths in government, media, business, education systems.

Our children will curse our names if we allow the future to become as dystopian as it appears to be heading.

When at first you don’t succeed,

with impeachment,

try impalement

The book review below by Richard C. is very instructive about the different approaches of North Korea compared to Iraq in relations with the U.S.

I am not saying North Korea is not totalitarian or they are good guys, I don't know enough about what goes on there to say, and that's by the design of the CIA no doubt.

After the book review link is a link to my current take on the big picture, which includes a link to a different article also by Richard C. about Usury, which at one time the Catholic Church held up as a mortal sin.
