Am I the only person who finds it hard to really know another person? Perhaps it's me, but every time I try to have a serious conversation with another person (other than my family) I usually get the deer in the headlights look. Almost everyone just doesn't want to think about anything that they can't do anything about (or they think they can't), and prefer to stick their head in the sand and focus on the mundane and shallow. Maybe it's my age (I'm 76) but my peers in general are very boring people, and they are certainly aren't interested in challenging what they think they know, and have little curiosity about the rest. Most would rather hold onto their illusions that everything is copacetic.

It's hard to get to know people deeply.

But, I don't think we need to form profoundly deep relationships with all of our neighbors.

I don't even want to do that. I am like you...I have a very small circle, by now.

Same here. Most of the people I know are oblivious. Family too. They're nice people but don't have the intellectual curiosity to question the BS that's being dished out. It's very discouraging.....

Better than Jesus? (I’m part Jew so don’t kill the messenger)

Well, at least I am real. I don't mind a little hyperbole ego boost.

We all need those once in awhile.

I think you're better than Jesus, Joanna.

What does "part Jew" mean? Is it ethnicity, religion or just a name?

Creating “community” is a challenge but a glimmer whenever an opportunity presents itself. I have a small circle over the years of trusted allies. For me the ones I trust are the ones who question “everything”.
