What a waste of time, money and energy on the taxpayers. More BS from Newsom and his fake wokeness. He is such a POSEUR. I actually did not dislike DeSantis more than I disliked Newsom even though I find them both to be posturing and wagging their little thingies in public..asking us whose is bigger? That's all it is about with these dolts. Public SERVICE? HAHAHAHA....

I dislike DeSantis, but I loathe Newscum. I hope you are doing good!

California democrats are the most fickle shitlibs out there. I’ve been to a ADEM meeting. I had a guy call me a ‘russian bot’ because I called Joe Biden an inveterate liar. I’m surprised those two didn’t try to out ‘Zionist’ each other declaring their fealty to the racist onclave called Israel

DeSantis as Florida governor was the exact opposite of Demon Newsom and Demon Inslee. He BANNED MANDATES and protected his people from Trump's monstrosities. As soon as he started running for president he abandoned his own splendid achievements and turned into the standard stupid culture warrior. I still don't understand what happened, but I can't possibly support a traitor to his own cause.

Hands down, we can find human stain in EVERY fucking state, then and now. How far back to we have to go? Clayton Williams? The flat earther in Arizona? Reagan? Dead people elected to office -- now that's probably the best and safest thing to do.

I want these fuckers running the show? Georgia GOP Chair Goes Full Flat-Earth, Says Globes Are Part of a Conspiracy. “Every store, you buy a globe. There's globes everywhere."

Look, even old simple folk -- I just talked with a couple, 82 years old each, married 65 years -- who are getting their Meals on Wheels (bad bad food, dudes) and they have never gotten the mRNA. No RVS vax. "We drink tonic water by the gallon."

And at the Senior Center, a happy director says: "We have free vacicinations downstairs. Covid boosters, RVS, shingles. You get a $25 gift card from Walmart for each one."

I well know that as an inveterate and incorrigible cynic, my comments are rarely positive, optimistic, or even constructive. In fact, even the word "constructive" makes me shudder-- although not as much as my workaholic control-freak brother-in-law's approving use of "productive".

That confession made, in 2010 I saved a brief "Onion Sports" article that I regard as the perfect analogue, or parallel, to both the present-day Amerikan "electoral system" and the way yer average Amerikan voter regards electoral-politics rituals. I'll provide the link, which is still active, but the piece is so short I'm taking the liberty to reproduce the text here in full:

Wrestling Fan's Comments Alternate Between Admitting It's Fake, Forgetting It's Fake - Published March 6, 2010

https://www.theonion.com/wrestling-fans-comments-alternate-between-admitting-its-1819571354

STATEN ISLAND, NY—During a recent screening of WWE Friday Night SmackDown, wrestling enthusiast David Graziano fluctuated between an awareness that the match he was watching was completely scripted and a willingness to treat the event as though it were 100 percent real. "[Chris] Jericho isn't even coming close to landing those punches," said Graziano, who, seconds later, gave a pained shout as wrestler Edge chopped Jericho across the chest. "That chair-hit looked dumb as hell, but Jericho should have dodged low and slapped on the [finishing move] Walls of Jericho. Nobody can get out of that." Graziano later commented on how old the Undertaker was looking, and how the Deadman wouldn't be able to single-handedly bury people alive for too much longer.

It seems obvious to me that the debate between Gavin Newsom and Ron DeSantis could be plugged into this "Onion" parody with a modicum of tweaking and revising. Of course, all this merely restates or echoes Cindy's succinct term "farce".

But the deeper and more profound problem is that our overclass-warped Through the Looking-Glass reality has long since superseded the traditional Enlightment and civics class assumptions that the US goverment is elected and empowered by a rational, reasonably well-informed, and politically perspicacious populace. It's not a coincidence that during this century, pop culture has lionized Wall Street founder Hamilton and ignored or despised Jefferson.

I don't know if the legendary Lincoln-Douglas debate narrative is accurate; allegedly, it was a series of well-attended grueling marathon debates. (I started to write "bare-knuckled", but that idiom is a little too reminiscent of the fake-wrestling status quo.) Anyway, nowadays few would actually watch and digest such legitimate debates; most would prefer to rely on vicarious reports from mass-media pundit "experts", and maybe a few wonky types would watch YouTube excerpts.

I realize that Cindy isn't arguing for "more and better campaign debates" (as progressive-liberals wished, or used to wish, for "more and better Democrats" as part of the solution to our national political degeneracy). But the current lame pro wrestling, comic-book pseudo-debates are only a symptom of the more pervasive problem: We the People have been dragged into a post-rational mendacious culture of marketing and spectacle, and the electoral process has deteriorated into just another branch of "bread and circuses" overclass social control.

Like the "Onion" wrestling fan, most voters are mired in a doublethink mode of knowing that legacy electoral processes and practices are contrived and phony, but submissively or desperately take them seriously because they're all we've got. 🤨

So ... it's now an "election season" and we're getting hit with "debates" among the candidates for "president," which DeSantis is known for actually being. But why Newsome? Did I somehow MISS his announcement that he's running???

I didn't watch the debate. DeSantis is better on Covid but terrible on Israel and I don't want either of these guys. You mentioned the effect of the policies and lockdowns on younger students. The damage may be more far-reaching. Law students these days are having a rough time passing a super-easy bar exam that my dog could probably pass. In fact, the passage rates (even though it's the easiest California bar in history) are so low that the bar sent out a survey to all attorneys asking if they should approve a proposal to waive the exam for a significant proportion of those seeking to practice law,. Currently because of the low admission standards, most attorrneys seem to be dramatically unfamiliar with their own areas of law and the average layperson is probably more knowledgeable about law than the average attorney. My suspicion is our whole society is severely vax damaged and/or educationally diminished. I think this is also the case with other professionals. In the last year (though I'm not a veterinarrian), I've had to educate veterinarians on the most basic procedures oof veterinarian medicine. Think of how many doctors have killed their patients without conscience in recent times. There is no longer an emphasis on knowledge and compassion when it comes to professions, anymore. As for the younger generation, the mandates and insanity are dumbing them down further and, unless something changes, a whole generation will be severely handicapped.
