I believe Mr Bushnell was inspired by the burning bonze protests in 1963 in Saigon, against the US-backed, Catholic Diem regime's persecution against Buddhists, which put the final nail in the coffin of Diem, who was assassinated (with CIA assistance, of course) Nov 2, 1963. At least CNN mentioned what Bushnell's self-immolation was about. I had not known about the Georgia incident until today. I checked out the "Burning bonze" entry in CIA cut-out Wikipedia, which actually gives good background, with quotes, on what the Buddhist monks were doing, torching themselves. Useful Idiots podcast "Monday Mourning" led off today covering the fact that the NYT and other MSM outlets totally white-washed the purpose of Bushnell's protest with generic headlines. RIP, Aaron Bushnell.
"...and they are the ones that should be on fire." Indeed.

Imagine this, CNN had to throw this into their report:
"A spokesperson from the Israeli Embassy said no embassy staff were injured." Unbelievable.
A young fellow of 25 years with an incredible level of empathy, understanding and compassion. His unit had just received orders to ship out (deploy) from what I have seen. He was unwilling to be a part of the killing machine. While I hope he stirs the hearts of his fellow airmen and other military personnel- perhaps they can find a way, as Woody Guthrie suggested:
“I would like to see every single soldier on every single side, just take off your helmet, unbuckle your kit, lay down your rifle, and set down at the side of some shady lane, and say, nope, I ain't a gonna kill nobody. Plenty of rich folks wants to fight. Give them the guns.”

Dear Cindy, I agree and feel same way. Being the daughter of a Korean War Veteran (dad) suffered horribly PTSD all his last 50 years of his life. He always flew the US Flag upside down (nation in distress) and lately I think, what if, would "Americans" care if all of us, pro-peace ,antiwar, Veterans, veterans for peace, veterans who have "had enough", war, deaths, genocide, could we ask them, all of us to protest at our states capitals, not only hold upside flag, but if we all in protest, "burn the American Flag?!" do you think anyone would care? would the so-called fake Patriots care? Would they demand we all get arrested? Trump once said that! Who would care? They keep voting the same old same ol'e duopoly and expecting a different result! When will that ever change?! I am all for not giving up, at age 60, I feel more determined to not give up, so what do we do next? Thanks so much for always sharing your self, and truth! greatly appreciated. MaryJ. Boston, MA.
